'The Teacher'
Dream Drummer arrived at the school house lawn and to his amazement he saw a number 8 rolling down the hill in the grass. 'What on Moon is this', he thought to himself as he watched in astonishment. The number eight kept rolling and rolling, right towards a tree at the bottom of the hill. 'It is going to hit that tree', he thought, 'that is not good at all'. And sure enough, the number eight hit the tree quite hard. Dream Drummer expected the eight to fall apart and it did, but not into tiny, little shards all over the place, no, it split into two pieces! The two pieces started to form into what looked like a number four! Each piece of the eight had like magic turned into a two number fours. 'Hm , this is right, one eight cut into two halves makes two fours and two times four is one eight! Of course! The eight did the right thing!' Both numbers fours stood now straight and still in the school yard in front of the school house.
All the children were sitting on the lawn watching what happened. The teacher laughed and told them that this is not only possible with the number eight but they could also try a number four, and then they would have two number twos. The children started to experiment, running up the hill with numbers in their hands and rolling them downhill, trying to make them hit the tree. Pretty soon all kinds of numbers came rolling down the hill and splitting up in half, making two new numbers. Dream Drummer watched the children play and having so much fun. He never had imagined that learning about divisions and fractions was such a wonderful game. Then the children's parents came to pick their children up. They all seemed so happy. One of the parents said to the an other: " The teacher is really sparking the imagination of our children, I have never seen them having so much fun learning." Dream Drummer thought to himself: " It's all about imagination, I wish my friends could have been here, seeing this too, they would have never imagined how exciting it can be to learn new things."
